Chiang Rai to Laos Tour Package – ITINERARY

DAY 1 – Arrival in Chiangrai or pick up from your hotel

DAY 2 – Crossing from Chiang Rai to Laos – Huay Xai & Pakbeng

DAY 1 – Arrival in Chiangrai or pick up from your hotel (-/L/-)

Our Chiang Rai to Laos Package begins in Chiang Rai with our pick up either from the local airport of Chiangrai or the train station.

11:30 Pick up by our guide and drive to visit Wat Rong Khun (The White Temple)

The unique White Temple – Wat Rong Khun contains inside it murals and paintings of the Buddha image and painted enamel ceramic floor that will take another 5 years to complete. The outside is being created with lime sculpture thai designs decorated with small pieces of mirror that make the building sparkle and shine under the sunlight. The temple is still under construction by a local Thai creator who devotes all his life to Dhamma.

12:00    Depart to visit Padong -The Long Neck Hill Tribe and others

13:00    Lunch at Local Restaurant

14:00    We continue to visit Doitung Garden – Botanic Park

DAY 2 – From Chiang Rai to Laos – Huay Xai – Pakbeng (B/L/D)

07:00    Pick up from your hotel to Chiangkhong-Huay Xai border.

07:30    Arrive at the Thai–Laos friendship bridge to begin with crossing process

TT6 Extra Fee for Laos visa on arrival is required upon entering Lao Country. Approx $30 Per Person (depend on nationality) Please prepare a photo (passport size) for Laos Visa issue.

  • Please Be aware you are crossing an international border. The Laos visa on arrival process can take some time, therefore your patience is appreciated.

You’ll meet our team in front of chiang khong international border with a sign of your name. They will help you getting on the shuttle bus to cross the bridge and go to lao immigration. Once you crossed, our Lao Team (English speaking guide) will be welcoming you and will help you to apply for your laos visa. Then, we will transfer you by mini van to the boat pier to begin your Laos tour with unforgetable sail on the Mekong River

12:00   Lunch is served on board with traditional Lao food with several dishes for you to experience different flavors

14:00   First stop will be to visit a Hill Tribe Village along the Mekong River.

Our Laos tour guide will be sharing you with local information about the way of living and the origins of these rural populations. As the tribe is very small, we ask you special attention respecting the private space of the inhabitants while visiting their homes.

During the afternoon, you will have some free time to relax on-board while sailing and taste some local snacks and fresh fruits.

16:30   Boat arrives in Pakbeng before sunset, where you will retreat to your accommodation for the night.

DAY 3 – Pakbeng – Luang Phrabang (B/L/-)

The boat departs to continue with our Laos tour towards another day of impressive nature landscapes all along the river. 2 stops are planned during the afternoon and some free time in the morning. Do not hesitate to ask your guide some questions about Luang Prabang and Laos.

12:30  Lunch is served on board. You’ll have a chance to taste traditional Lao food with several dishes.

13:00    Visit the famous Pak Ou Caves

After lunch, the first stop will be at Pak Ou to visit the famous Pak Ou Caves (tham ting) and its thousands of Buddha images.

14:30    Lao Lao – The Whisky Village

Next step, the Lao Lao Village, commonly known as the Whiskey Village.You will have time to enjoy the calm charm of this small and authentic village, its temple and local artisans. The guide will provide you with some information about the locally made rice whisky, and you will have the chance to taste it (if you wish) with some local snacks and fresh fruits. Arrival in Luang Prabang around 16:30

DAY 4 –  Luang Phrabang Sightseeing By Car/Walking (B/L/-)

08:30    Pick up from the Hotel and Drive to the Morning Market

From your hotel we’ll drive to the morning market. Unlike the large grocery stores you might be familiar with back home, the food here is still produced by small farming families and villages and brought to Luang Prabang from the surrounding northern provinces of Laos. Your guide will show, explain and buy you some common vegetables and fruits that are in season.

    Visit ‘Wat May‘ – The ‘New Monastery

After a short walk from the market along the streets you we arrive at Wat Mai (“New Monastery” built in 1796). It was given its present name following the restoration undertaken in 1821 by king manthathourat. The most striking feature of the temple is the gilded relief panels covering the front facade. The panels tell the story of the highest incarnation of the Buddha – Vessentara. The gilded doorframes merge into the relief panel, forming what looks like a monolithic wall of gold.

Visit the ‘National Museum

Next to Wat Mai Temple is the National Museum which used to be the Royal Palace (Haw Kham). The museum houses the Royal Throne of the Lane Xang Kingdom in its original splendor, and many other religious treasures. Your laos tour guide will be following you with some information as you explore the museum.

Visit ‘Wat Visoun

From the museum we continue to visit Wat Visoun. This temple was constructed during the reign of King Visounarat around 1520. In 1942, it was turned into a Museum of Religious Arts, and houses collections of Buddha images and religious artifacts from the fourteenth century.           

Visit ‘Wat Xieng Thong

We continue by car along the Nam Khan River to Wat Xieng Thong. This temple is the most important one in the entire country of Laos and in Luang Prabang of course too. Until 1975, when the communist party gained control over Laos, Wat Xieng Thong was a Royal Temple, supported by the Royal Family. During the 1960s Wat Xieng Thong was completely remodeled and redecorated, becoming the splendid temple we see today.

Visit Phou Si Hill and climb all steps to the top

We finish our day tour with climbing up the steps of Phou Si Hill all the wat to the top, which is studded with many small temples and shrines. The Gilded Stupa at the top of the hill is built on a large rock outcropping. Next to the Stupa is a small Wiharn (Chapel) for prayers. Further down the side of the hill is part of Wat Phra Buddabhat (The Buddha’s Footprint Temple). From here enjoy the stunning view of the peninsula where the Nam Khan River meets the mighty Mekong River.

DAY 5 – Luang Phrabang – Kuang Si Waterfalls (B/L/-)

Continue (by car) to Kuang Si Waterfalls

On the way to the beautiful Kuang Si Waterfalls, our fascinating laos tour stops to visit Hmong and Khamu Villages. Those villages have different structures and ways of life, We will get a chance to learn about their traditions and the differences between Lao, Khamu and Hmong culture.

Visit the beautiful ‘Kuang Si Waterfalls‘ and a ‘Bear Rescue Center

On the way back we will stop to visit ‘Buffalo Dairy Farm‘.

DAY 6 – Luang Phrabang – Vang Vieng (B/L/-)

Approx at 08:30 We leave Luang Prabang passing through the amazing mountains of Central Laos and visit Hmong Villages

Once leaving Luang Prabang, We’ll drive up into the amazing mountains of North-Central Lao PDR, where we get to visit Hmong Villages. The Hmong are ethnic group living the mountainous regions of Laos. They are also one of the sub-groups of the Miao Ethnicity in Southern China. Hmong people began gradualing southward in the 18th century due to political unrest and a lack of arable land for living.

Arrive in ‘Vang Vieng‘ City

We’ll end our mountain journey in the beautiful small city of ‘vang vieng’ tucked in amongst giant limestone cliffs. This region is definitely one of the highlights spots in our Laos Tour – Packed with immense and breathtaking natural beauty, with the small Nan Song River passing through the shadows of the dramatic mountains.

Afternoon tour to the ‘Blue Lagoon‘ and ‘Tham Phu Kham Cave

In afternoon we will visit the blue lagoon and Tham Phu Kham Cave. At the blue lagoon you can just hangout or swim to refresh yourself. after visiting these places we drive back to your hotel. Free and Relaxing time.

DAY 7 – Vang Vieng – Vientiane (B/L/-)

After breakfast drive to visit ‘Tham Jang Cave‘.

‘Tham Jang’ is an amazing cave just to the southwest of Vang Vieng City. It is accessable by a bridge crossing over the Nam Song River and then a long trail of steps takes you inside. There is also a spring located about 50 metres (160 ft) inside the cave. The cave itself was used as a military bunker in the early 19th century during the Chinese invasion.

Continue driving South towards the Capital – Vien Tiane

Arrive in Vientiane

Vientiane is the capital Laos and largest city in the country, located right on the Mekong River. It became the capital only in 1563 because of Burmese invasion threat. During French rule, Vientiane was the administrative capital and it has become the economic center of Laos. (It still carries a French Name..)

The most significant portion in out Laos tour is the quietest capital of South West Asia with Wat Sisaket which was built in the siamese style of buddhist architecture and with a surrounding terrace of five-level ornate roof – unlike any Lao style. Wat Sisaket has a fence wall with more than 2,000 ceramic Buddha images.

Our next visit will be Wat Phra Kaew built between 1556 and 1565, it was the first house of the Emerald Buddha which is now in Wat Phra Keaw – Bangkok. The temple was destroyed many times and was rebuilt for the third time by the French in the 1920s. visit cope centre.

On the way to the famous sacred stupa of Pha That Luang, the Golden Buddhist Stupa and most important national monument in Laos, We stop at the imposing monument of ‘Phatuxay’. The ‘Victory Gate’ or the Triumphal Gate was built and dedicated to what was struggled for independence against France.
